European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)

The European Aviation Safety Agency is a European Union (EU) agency with regulatory and executive tasks in the field of civilian aviation safety. Based in Cologne, Germany, EASA was created in 2002 and reached full functionality in 2008, taking over functions of the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA).

European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries have been granted participation in the agency. The Engineering/Technical Training facility at SriLankan Aviation College is one of the few institutions in Asia that is EASA Part 147 approved to conduct both Basic Training in Avionics and Mechanical streams fulfilling the standards of EASA Part 66 and Type Training for aircraft of the Airbus family.
